Nick: Third Day, Nap

I did laborious work all day today, making me pretty tired as the clock neared 6:30. After getting back from work I went out to dinner and ended up not making it home until 6:55 so I rescheduled my nap to 7:00 to 8:30, no biggie. My girlfriend was over, though, and playing on my computer (listening to music quietly, typing, etc) throughout my entire nap, which was a major distraction. I wasn't really able to sleep much in the nap due to the distractions. I was definitely asleep when I was woken up by her/the alarm clock, but I hadn't been for too long and I felt way groggy. I'm feeling fine right now though, a bit tired, but not too bad. Because of how much I messed up my nap yesterday I'm thinking I'm probably about a day behind Johnny now, but I can definitely feel some effects already.. I'm surprisingly not too tired for how little sleep I have been getting.

My biggest problem seems to be falling asleep. Throughout my entire life it's always taken me a while to fall asleep, so this will be the hardest part of my adaptation: training my body to fall asleep. We'll see how it goes tonight. Maybe I'll try Johnny's sleep on floor idea.

John: Approaching Third Midnight

Had a solid nap today, exactly 90 minutes. Then I washed my face and had dinner, that'll take some getting used to. The real test will be to see if I can be productive tonight. I will update you about that later.

John: Third Day, Morning

Last night I didn't get tired until around 2:30, which felt really good. I was even watching a movie in the dark (Babel, which I haven't finished yet, good so far) and I wasn't tempted to sleep until probably 15 til 3. I got into bed (on the floor, actually) with ten minutes to fall asleep and probably used 5 of it. My alarm was set for six but I woke up at 8, because someone woke me up. I don't remember turning off my alarm, so two things could have happened: I slept through it (maybe it stops buzzing at some point), or I semi-consciously turned it off. Eitherway, I need to work on a better alarm system. Once I was awake this morning I was very alert right away, that's new.

I think my body has started changing. My sleep is more on/off now that it ever was, instead of fading in and out.

Nick: Third Day, Morning

I am awake! 6:02am and I am awake. I overslept my last two sleep periods but this time I was able to wake up and get up just on time. Since I accidentally slept for over five hours yesterday evening, it took me quite some time to fall asleep at 3am. I drifted in and out of sleep until I looked at the clock and it was somewhere around 4:30am. After that I don't remember anything until waking up at 6. So I think I was able to get in one complete sleep cycle, although I do feel a bit groggy right now but maybe that's just because of how weird and confusing my sleep was yesterday. Off to work at 8 and hopefully I'll be done in time to get some dinner before my 6:30 nap (which I'm not going to mess up today!).

Nick: Second Day, Nap (Failure)

So I laid down for my nap at 6:30pm, tossed and turned a bit but ended up falling asleep and not waking up until 11:45pm. This turned out to be quite a disaster as I missed plans with my girlfriend and probably confused my body quite a bit. I've decided I'm going to use my normal alarm clock as well as now setting my computer to blast music at the time I need to wake up. Hopefully this will be pretty fail-safe. I considered shortening my second chunk of sleep tonight since I got so much sleep in the first chunk but have decided against that as it may just confuse my body even more. I'll lay in bed at 3am and stay in bed until I fall asleep, although that will probably take a while as I'm feeling pretty rejuvenated at the moment from all that accidental sleep, and wake up at 6am once again.
